Why flying cars are a bad idea

You have probably heard of the widely known phenomenon of flying cars, we always talk about how they would change the world and is usually one of the first things we imagine when we talk about the "future"

You've probably seen flying cars in sci-fi movies and thought to yourself how cool it would be if we had that in real-life, well, that is until you look at the practicality of it.

I will cover it's sheer dreadfulness in three segments which are:

  • Actual Usefulness

  • Cost

  • Effects on Mental Health

Actual Usefulness

Let's start off with the obvious question: What use will a flying car actually bring to society? Will it fix the current transportation problems the world faces today? no, the idea is stupid at best and dangerous at worst, because if we were to be mass-producing flying cars, we'd need to create an entirely new driving licence so that people know how to use the car, and current drivers would essentially need to go back to driving school in order to learn how to use the thing.

Now if that is something that doesn't bother you then I have something else for ya, let's say you got your license and now you can drive your flying car, yay....but as you drive it a plane approaches your car, it doesn't see your car and is heading straight for you, by the time they realise, the damage has already been done.

You might say, "but wait, wouldn't they teach you how to deal with a plane coming towards you in driving school?" well they definitely would, no denial, but even if you had a ton of practise navigating a flying car through that sort of situation in driving school, there will always be that reassurance that you are in a safe environment and at the hands of professionals who are there to ensure your safety. This is the same case with learning regular driving.

But you won't get that kind of reassurance if you're flying the car alone, you see with driving, if you do a few practise lessons with an instructor, you gain the confidence to hit the roads alone. But with a flying car, it's a much more riskier situation, because you are above the skies, thousands of feet above ground, unless you have the bravery of a solider about to charge on the battleground, you'll probably be scared for life. All alone, with nobody to help you if you mess up.

But enough about the capability to fly a car, let's talk about the sheer danger it would present to aircrafts in the air, according to the USA's Federal Aviation Administration, more than 45,000 flights fly through US airspace every single day, let's say that an average of 100,000 flying cars flew every day, with 45,000 planes in the air at any given time, I think you can see where the problem lies, aircraft collision would become an every day event.

When you think of flying cars being a reality, do you ever think how they are supposed to takeoff or land? Because if we are making flying cars for normal, everyday use, we'd definitely need runaways basically everywhere, so that people can get to where they want to get. That is unless, we manage to make a car that works like a jet pack.

Cost

Cost is one of the most important factors of purchasing a flying car, if you thought it'd be as cheap as a 1995 Toyota corolla, well would you be wrong, the thing is, making a flying car is not easy, you need engineers, parts which cost a fortune, as a result, flying cars would be extremely expensive to buy for the average person. That picture of a flying car I showed earlier? well the asking price for that is between $550,000 to $1.1 million, a little pricey for something utterly useless, don't you think? Essentially making it a rich people only transportation.

Effects on Mental Health

The last and easily the most important segment, It's detrimental effects on our mental health, think about it, have you ever felt the annoyance of a plane flying over your house, the terrible noise the jet makes, but usually the pain only lasts for a few seconds, now imagine a buzzing noise multiplied by ten times, over your house that doesn't ever stop. No matter where you go, that noise follows you, how would you feel? probably not happy, the places where it used to be quiet and peaceful just turned into a hell of buzzing noises, and there's nothing you do that mitigates them. It is total hell on earth, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps, having to live a life like that, god hope that never happens.

Alright, I think that says all I want to say about flying cars, let me know what you think, I'm willing to hear the opposing arguments, with that said, bye for now. I hope you enjoyed reading.
